Chester Little Theatre are seeking 5 men and 4 women for this thriller by Lucille Fletcher.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.

Synopsis: Unable to sleep, Elaine Wheeler paces the living room of her Manhattan townhouse, troubled by unsettling memories and vague fears. Her husband tries to comfort her, but when he steps away for a moment Elaine screams as she sees the body of a dead man in the window across the way. The police are called, but find nothing except an empty chair...

An outstanding Broadway success, this ingeniously devised thriller builds steadily in menace and suspense until the final, breath-stopping moment.

Roles Available:

5 Men | 4 Women

Elaine Wheeler – Leading Role (30s-50s) A married heiress with a troubled past. Elaine is strong-willed yet given recent events, on the edge of sanity with what she sees and struggles with whom she can trust.

John Wheeler – Leading Role – Elaine’s second husband. Very dominating and in control.

He is concerned, yet exasperated by Elaine’s visions. The audience will come to have mixed feelings about his responses to her plight.

Helga – Nosy and bold. Works as a maid for the Wheeler family. Must have a German accent.

Blanche Cook – Young nurse. Elaine’s best friend. Sympathetic and seemingly truly concerned, Blanche must gain the audience’s trust if not Elaine’s.

Vanelli – A young Italian cop with an interest in art.

Lieutenant Walker – Assigned to investigate Elaine’s claims. Grows increasingly frustrated and believes Elaine has no evidence to warrant what she has seen.

Curtis Appleby – Nosy neighbor that lives in the apartment across the way. Elaine is suspicious of his activity. Very flamboyant and somewhat creepy.

Dr. Tracey Lake – Arrives to evaluate Elaine. Oddly calls Elaine who is 10 years her senior “child”. She is calm, professional and somewhat cool.

Sam Hoke – Local business owner, famous for his potato salad. Sam is very infuriated by Elaine’s claims as it is severely effecting his business.
